essexhen
I'm hoping someone can shed some light on why my 8-9 month old ranger hybrid who had been laying every day for months has suddenly stopped - last week she laid a paler shelled egg every couple of days and this week nothing. Could it be the shorter days? Could it be the stress of a recent introduction of 3 new hens? Could she be poorly I have heard that stopping laying is the first sign of a problem but she doesnt seem ill - I'm flubenveting/poultry spice and cider vinegaring just in case
ninjah
Has she laid anymore. Often the introduction of other hens can upset the balance of the pecking order so her diet may have changed a little since if her "position" in the group has been lowered. Olly
Could she be moulting? The obvious sign is when the run looks as if someone has ripped open a duvet but they can do a mini-moult, when they just lose their tail-feathers and look a bit scruffy. Worming would be my first suggestion, which you are doing.
essexhen
Thanks for the replies - she seems to be back on track, she's been laying again for a few days and the eggs are back to their usual colour. I'm guessing it was the stress of introduction as there were no moulting signs - the introduction went well though.
