Fablabmum43
I have a silkie bantum who was injured as a result of being pecked by some of the others. I isolated her while her wounds healed and then put her back with the gentler hens. All seemed fine again. So after a couple of weeks I tried to reintroduce the "bullies" to the house. After a few hours my silkie was injured again so I removed her. She has healed up but now she is unable to walk much and easily loses her balance. She seems fine in herself, is eating and drinking well and droppings look normal although she is not laying. She is not puffed up and doesn't seem to be in any distress. None of the other chickens are showing similar symptoms. I do wonder if the others started to peck her because she knew she was sick. These chickens have been together for 18 months now and there's never been a problem before. When I think back, the silkies' walking has probably been deteriorating very gradually over the last few months - so gradually that it has almost been imperceptible. There seem to be so many possible causes of this I don't know where to start. She is such a lovely bird with a great character - we would hate to lose her. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
