Ridgie
Hi I'm looking for any advice on the following; One of my three year old hens has a very bloody vent (discovered this morning). I've obviously separated her from the others, she is not happy, listless, ruffled feathers. She does keep straining and there is a lump, however I can't see if it's an egg or not...I've left her with water, but no food and a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel (she's in a pet carrier). There isn't anything sticking out of her vent and I'm wondering if the amount of blood is from the other three having a 'go' at her! Also, none of them have laid any eggs for 5 days. I have called the vet and am waiting for a call back from him.... I've not had any egg/vent problems from any of them before so obviously concerned, hoping someone with a bit of experience will be able to shed any light on this for me? Thanks. Olly
Sorry - either could be right, e.g. she could have a wound to her vent from the others pecking at her, or she could be straining to lay a stuck egg. Vet is your best bet - you're doing the right thing by keeping her hydrated and warm. Hope she soon perks up.
