When should hens start laying after chicks grown.

Hi,

 

I currently have 4 chickens of egg laying age (all in their second year). Two Silkies, a Brahma and an Orpington. Only the Brahma is laying !! One of the silkies has only ever been an occassional layer so i'm not concerned about her. Which brings me to the other Silkie and Orpington. They have been surrogate mothers to 6 chicks but those chicks are now 14 weeks old and self sufficient and doing their own thing for at least the last 5 weeks so i'd have thought the mothers would have started laying again by now.

 

To muddy the waters a bit, I moved them into a new run about 8 weeks ago and sold 4 of the older members of the flock, but again, i'd have thought enough time would have gone by to get used to the new order/home.

 

Maybe it's just a combination of changes too many and they have gone on strike.

 

sigh...the wife is mumbling about the chickens costing way more than we are getting back in return. She's even had to buy eggs this week lol :wink:

 

Any ideas?
