squidsin
I've posted this elsewhere on the forum but would love to know if anyone thinks it's worthwhile investing in a Cube to help combat a rat problem. I've had an Eglu Classic for a few years with no rat problem, but am now living in the country, and the chooks are in a chicken shed and wired-in run (inherited the whole lot with the house) and we have a MAJOR rat problem! I've called in the council who've set traps, but I clearly need to rethink the chicken arrangements, so was considering a Cube on paving stones, covered on top, with wood chip. Would this work? Dodge
Hi I hate rats and I had a problem with them as they were digging holes straight into the run and eating whatever they could find. The way I solved my problem was to level out the ground and I then layed down 1 ton of pea gravel and leveled and compacted it down. Then I layed flag stones down on top of that and then I placed my cube and run on top of that. Over night the rats were no longer able to dig into the run and soon after that they moved on and we no longer have a problem. I throw down a couple of inches of easybed/wood chips over the whole floor and that lasts about a month. I have since built a walk in run over that and now I am totaly vermin/fox free and my girls are very happy.
