I posted about this the other day, but am still confused, so am trying again on a different board

I lost Bellatrix to what I think was vent gleet on Easter Monday - sadly she was very poorly and had to be culled. Ginny was showing signs of developing the same thing (tail feathers pasted together, bald around her vent, blood streaks) - she saw the vet on April 2nd and was given an antibiotic injection and 1ml Baytril for the next 5 days. She finished that on Sunday 7th. It seems to have cleared and my other chicken, Hermione, still seems well.

I am SO missing my eggs though. Hermione hasn't been laying much this year and I'm throwing Ginny;s away - still undecided what I'm going to do about eating her eggs in future I want to add 2 new chooks to the flock. If I were to go and look at some this Sunday would that be too soon after the vent gleet? It'll be 14 days since Ginny finished her meds..

I've been struggling to find out what's wrong with one of my hens and have now confirmed it's vent gleet. Now I know what it's called there is lots of advice available on line about how to treat and we we're on the right track with anti-fungal cream on her vent, feeding her probiotic powder / yoghurt and vinegar in their drinking water. As it's a yeast infection, anti-biotics will do no good. Most websites seem to say it's not contagious but mainly stress induced (by the freezing cold in our case). Our hen is now looking much perkier but still not enjoying her daily baths. Hopefully she'll recover soon and our egg supply will return. Hope your girls are back to full fitness soon.
