Broody Chook

Recommended Posts

Well Toast has decided to go broody. She has been in the nesting box most of Staurday, all day Sunday and was still there this morning.

She isn't sitting on eggs and is very placid (she's placid to the point of dozzyness anyway) so I can remove eggs quite easily. This morning I wrapped up a couple of ice blocks and stuck them under her. She just settled down on them making slight complaining noises. If she hasn't abandoned the idea by Wednsday she'll get the dunking treatment and if that doesn't work my friend (who runs a couple of cockerels with her hens) said I should "borrow" a few eggs from her and see how she goes. I'd give any chicks back to my friend.....

Meanwhile Chips (who is Boss Bird) is missing her friend. Chips keeps going into the cube and giving Toast a bit of a poke as if to say "stop sitting around, come and play" but Toast just turns her back on Chips..... Chips looks a bit bereft and is even more cuddly than usual when I am in the garden.... insisting in being petted and trying to get into my arms for a cuddle..... much to the neighbours amusement.
