Does anyone use Equinola on their WIR floor please?

Recommended Posts

Hello all, although I haven't posted many comments yet I have been a forum member for a while and have really enjoyed reading about everyone else's "chickeny" exploits :D

I am currently putting the finishing touches to my WIR (Omlet one) and getting really excited as I'm hoping to get my first ever girls next weekend  I had thought of using Aubiose on the floor (slabbed base and will be covered with tarpaulins) but my local farm supply shop has recently changed hands and will no longer be stocking it :( They do however have Equinola by Bedwell and I wondered if any one had any experience of using this themselves and could offer any advice please. I know many horse beddings are a popular choice but was a little unsure as Equinola has added Lemon scented Tea Tree oil and don't want to use anything which may harm by lovely girls (when I get them lol!)

I know there have been lots of threads on run flooring but just wanted to ask about this one in particular, I hope you don't mind. Thanks :)

sorry for the late reply i use equinola by bedwell in my run my run is 9x6 and is slabbed with a roof and i use 2 bales of it and before i use to use rappor until they went bust it is not as fine as rappor and is a bit bigger also you get some pieces that have not shredded properly as for the tea tree oil that is there to keep the flies at bay but dont worry it wont harm the hens and the scent gradually fades i found it a good substitute and the poo just clumps up nicely for picking on a daily basis i have also mixed it with snowflake wood shavings putting snowflake on the bottom and equinola on the top and then let the hens do the mixing for you up till now i have no problems with it and it does compost

:D:D:D

Thank you so much for your reply doctors girls :D It's good to hear from others using a product and benefit from their experience. I feel much happier about the prospect of using it now. I was mainly concerned about the tea tree oil as wasn't sure if it was ok for chooks. I know that Bedwell make Chickola (without the tea tree) but my farm shop doesn't stock that, just Equinola. I will give it a try :) Soooooo looking forward to getting my girls :dance:
