JonEdney
We have three white KCs about 2-3 years old. They layed fine every day up to about August and then stopped and started moulting. This we expected but they have finished moulting and not restarted laying. Furthermore they just sit in their run all day, lathargic. Before, they used to dash out in the morning and spend the day grazing and foraging. Any advice welcome. Jon.
Beantree
Could simply be the daylight hours and the air temperature? As more mature birds they won't lay unless the conditions for rearing chicks is right. If they are not laying their energy requirements are a lot lower, so no mad dash to fill themselves with food. Expect them to restart in Spring. After a heavy moult it can sometimes take a while for laying to restart, especially at 2–3 years old. Shorter daylight hours can also have a big impact, so lack of light since late summer could be part of it. The lethargy is a bit more concerning though — I’d check for parasites (especially worms), review their diet to make sure they’re getting enough protein and minerals post-moult, and keep an eye out for any weight loss or other symptoms. If they’re still inactive after that, it might be worth getting them checked by a vet just to rule anything underlying out.
