Smiler
Well a week and a half on and the girls are on top of the housework. They are making their beds in the laying box and have a corner sorted as a toilet. They are eating loads and have started coming up to us although still quite jumpy with movements. Velma is the friendliest and speckle is the feather plucking bully. With all this organisation do you think we might be expecting eggs soon? Egluntyne
Sounds as if they are feeling right at home!
Eyren
The usual giveaway is crouching - because you are the person who sees them into the run and lets them out, brings them treats, etc, they behave as if you are the cockerel (since these are all his duties). The crouching is to allow him to perform his other main duty Usually they start to lay about a week later...
Smiler
No crouching yet so think we will have to be patient for a little longer. Their faces are pinking up nicely and combs are just making an appearance so probably as I suspected are a little young yet. They really truely surely have made themselves at home!! We have become hooked and plans for that bigger walk in run are underway already!
MedusA
I love it when people are caught by the chicken bug! It starts with "I'll just have two in a small run" and keeps on growing....... Not that I'm speaking personally of course
Smiler
Well these 4 were supposed to be 6, 2 each of 3 different breeds but full size hens not bantams but as these were for my son, Wernlas recommended them for him. So then it was supposed to be 3 but these were already a group of 4 and we just couldn't leave 1 behind even though she had a dodgy toe. Turns out that 1 has a dodgy toe and one has a hole in the web of her foot but they are all such characters already. People who come here know we are all a little strange lol The tortoise thinks its a dog and the dog thinks its human so they haven't got a chance of being sane living here
