Abbey Road Girl
I have some off-cuts of good quality black and white checked lino which I am thinking of putting in the run (only a week and a day to wait for chooks and Cube) but perhaps someone has already experimented with this idea. I wouldn't cover all the soil, maybe half, and will provide plenty of Aubiose for scratching. I'm not sure if it would make it easier to clean up poo, which was the idea, or harder. It is fairly substantial lino (with a cushioned backing) so I doubt that they'd be able to move it if the piece was large (but who knows the outer limits of chicken talents ). Egluntyne
Never heard of anyone trying this....but there is only one way to find out! You can test drive the theory for us. You never know....Amticoed runs might just be the next Omlet "must have".
sheik
I think it will be fine - I'd be tempted to cover all the soil too. Our run has an anti-weed mesh floor, and weldmesh on top of that. I wasn't keen on the floor being exposed to soil, mainly for foxes (either side of our run is soil), but also for mud, gradual chicken erosion (escape tunnels!) and harmful organisms making colonies in the ground. Provided they have a deep enough layer of aubiose (or equivalent) they can still scratch around fine. /\dam
