keeping watch!

This evening, I have noticed that Alice's anti pecking device has fallen off. It has been so lovely and peaceful in our little flock with every hen happy and thriving. I saw Alice starting to exibite her strange behaviour of strutting around the run, straining her neck sideways to gain another hen's attention and eye contact. Once she has gained eye fixation she goes in for the kill. Tomorrow morning I will give her the benefit of doubt and hope she wo'nt bully any more. What is so bizzarre is that Alice tried to take the anti pecking device out of May who also was a bully. The reason why they were fitted was because Alice tried to kill Suki.......seriously. In the end, Suki lost heart and laid on the floor crying out but allowing herself to be injured. It has taken 4 weeks for Suki to recover from the persistent experience. Her wounds have healed and feathers regrown and It's only very recently that Suki mixes with the other hens for most of the day. She used to stay in the henhouse or sit at the end of the run. I ca'nt allow this to happen again. So if Alice displays more of this behaviour, the anti pecking device will be fitted again. Oh dear!!!
