I have six already, I'm drowning in eggs and give loads away and six look about right for the size of my garden. However I would still love more . . . . . . . . . Abbey Road Girl Posted May 10, 2008 Share Posted May 10, 2008 It could be what seems to be a universal "maternal" instinct. Even male animals have been known to adopt a critter of another species. Exposure to another species gives us a sense of connectedness to nature as a whole. It also tells us how much we have in common. I have developed a special bond with Truffle who's at the bottom of the pecking order. She has learnt very quickly that I'll look out for her and not let the other three get all the treats.
