Automatic door openers

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Has anyone fitted an automatic door opener to an Eglu Cube? I realise you can't use one with the existing Eglu door .... but wondered if anyone had fitted a separate door and automatic door opener ?

I'm going away on hols in July and didn't want to ask my neighbour to come over twice a day ... early and late ... to look after the chooks ... so thought an automatic door opener (and new door!) would be the answer ...

Any advice gratefully received .. :)

Thanks guys!

Hi Jess : My neighbour would come over once a day .... so I guess if it did break they'd get let out at some point .... but I know what you mean! It's a worry isn't it!

I'm in a bit of a quandry about trying to find someone to come over twice a day. i left the door open the other night but they made a horrendous racket at 5am .... bok bok squawking etc. I had to rush down and shove them all back in their cube!!! I'm sure the neighbours were very cross to be woken up so early and I don't feel I can go away and leave them making that noise to annoy everyone every day. I'd probably come back and find them gone!!!! :?:?

I feel a bit stressed about the whole thing now .... I thought they were meant to be quiet!!!! :)

I've been pondering exactly the same problem, we go away for 2 weeks in August Ihave a neighbour who will come once a day to feed/water, but I couldn't ask her to open and close the pop hole. I have a wooden coop, so could fit an automatic opener, but they are about £70 and it would only be used for 2 weeks, had also thought about it jamming and the chooks being stuck inside ! Think I'll just leave the door open 24/7, but I will worry about foxes/rats etc even though the run is as fox proof as we can make it.

I let mine out at 5am every morning anyway and though I'm at work so I'm not around to hear any noise, I'm sure OH and son would have mentioned it, I know the bok bokking starts up at 8.30am !

Have you actually asked your neighbours if they can hear your chooks ? and if they mind ? you maybe worrying about nothing.

Easy peasy......

Tell neighbours they can have whatever eggs are laid in the time your away in exchange for checking in on them each day....

Because, dont forget... someone needs to collect the eggs in the time your away :-)

Yes ... I've been thinking about offering to pay a friend's daughter ... I think that might be a good idea .... certainly it becomes a more attractive proposition ... a bit of hard cash!! :D
