One Year On

Recommended Posts

Well its just over a year since our little red eglu and 2 girls arrived, and my, how we have grown :!:

We waited under a week for our first egg and have been delighted by their creamy taste.

Two quickly became 3, then 3 became 4  and we were able to supply friends and family before the children decided to sell them to teachers (Dragons Den here they come 8) )

The girls were moved to a permanent run to give them more room when we are away at weekends (adapted wooden gazebo) and have been allowed to free range across various parts of the garden until we have found a compromise between a nice garden and chicken heaven.

However, demand was soon outstripping supply so there was nothing for it but to upgrade.

Now we are 2 red eglus and 8 girls..............All in 1 year :D

By dividing the garden up with fruit netting we have managed to keep a reasonably nice garden and they get to free range (mostly they spend the day under a very large rhodedendrum which equates to chicken heaven/moonscape) they are happy and we are happy.

We have an allotment holder who collects bags of byproduct  from us and the girls are paying for their own keep.

We have had 1 serious health scare and managed to get her through, although minor scares are a regular occurance (we probably worry about them too much !)

So 1 year on and here we are....delighted we did it, so if in any doubt just think....this time next year
