Lost Fizz last week, could not find her anywhere in the duck pen. Total panic. On way back to house heard a strange noise between a tree and wall. Found her. She is sitting on at least 10 eggs, wedged in a little space. These past few days she has got very aggresive with us and is running at us honking like a goose. Vera is also sitting on an imaginary clutch of eggs!.Both girls have lost appetite and looking thin. Trouble is I have bought 6 runner eggs from e-bay going in incubator tomorrow. I am really excited at the thought of ducklings, but am a little scared about looking after them  . A farmer friend is lending us a heat lamp for brooding if I am lucky enought to have hatched eggs, but I am worried the duck pen will not be big enough, and although I have read a few books am worried about my lack of experience. My Kids are worried about names  . Do we carry on the Corrie theme or not. DH is as excited and apprehensive as I am. Ducks are so very calming to the mind, after a hard days work watching them just chills and relaxes you. Our little grandkiddies are so very excited, they have taken eggs to school and they were not off a supermarket shelf!, they are real. Sorry I have gone on too long, but really excited and worried the same time.

Would it be easier for you to put the Ebay eggs under Vera? - it is much easier than having to care for little ducklings in a brooder. If she's been sitting for some time already though she may not continue.

If you're worried about numbers would you be able to take a few of the eggs from Fizz's nest?

You'll def. have a problem finding Corrie names for them all if they all hatch

I have tried to take some eggs off Fizz, but she has not been off her nest for almost a week. I have put food and water bowls near her.She has not taken any food. She did get off for a moment last Friday when she threatened my son. 6 foot and scared :D . Poor Vera is over her broodiness and laid an egg today, in the pond!. She is a real air-head. Thought I heard a peeping noise from nest yesterday, surely much too early, but nothing today. If Fizz has been nesting for nearly 2 weeks I know about and the eggs are fertile, how much longer until they hatch?. I will have to keep a good eye out because of the proximity of the nest to the pond, and I am worried by the number of magpies who are gathering in the garden despite cats and dog. Any help appreciated.

PS if we are lucky enought to have ducklings, how about Norris for the 1st drake
