Chickens have NOT ruined my garden.

Recommended Posts

oh dear what a thread!

I like the idea of putting wire around baby plants, my hubbie has just planted some which my DD grew and he is very precious about them.

So that will stop the chooks and the dogs, and even the kids taking a short-cut across that bit.

Good oh. Keep the ideas coming.

Totally agree, our chickens are out every day for a good couple of hours and spend a lot of their time having dustbaths and sun bathing. Of course they do go into the borders but seem to be happy pecking through the mud rather than munching on flowers. I think you just have to let them get on with it and keep an eye on what they are up to. I tend to go round every few days with a rake and just get rid of debris etc.

My girls have had a lovely rootle about in my beds! I was going to re-design them before they arrived so they have saved me a bit of a job. When I re-plant them I'm going to put those wire hanging baskets, upside down, over the new plants. I reckon that they should protect the new plants until they are big enough to cope and they can grow up through the gaps. :P

I have had to stop the girls getting onto the patio though as they destroyed some lillies that my son had bought me which were in a pot. :x They even had slate chips in them! I have 2 tall pots that I had pinks in. Admittedly they had got to that stage where they look like a monks haircut - you know, flowers round the edges with the middle being bare! Everytime I looked out all I could see was fluffy bottoms!

Still, as others have mentioned I have not seen sight nor sound of a slug - I even have decent Hostas this year! Bless them!
