My two hens aggs have very pale yellow yolks. Is this normal or how do you get them to become darker?

Give them plenty of greens. Spinach, dandelion leaves, brocolli etc.

When they first started laying my girls' yolks were pale yellow but now they are a lovely deep yellow colour thanks to their daily dose of various greens from our veggie garden.

 

They particularly like perpetual spinach and Swiss chard. Really easy to grow and a continuous supply throught the year.

Check the date on your pellets or mash - my chickens eggyolks went watery white for a while, and i discovered that the pellets I had just bought were a good month out of date - I took them back, got some in date pellets, and the yolks went back to orange pretty quick.

My lot started with pale yellow yolks, then as their new free range diet kicked in, they got darker and darker. Now they are almost orange. Just takes a while.

Mine started pale yellow to yellow. Now my girls are let out for a good few hours each day the yolks are now a bright rich yellow to nearly orange sometimes. I agree it seems to be the greens that do it - mine spend ages munching the grass - don't let them near my herbs and I don't grow veggies

I have four hybrids, two of which are Bovans Goldlines, who I have had since beginning of May. Although one has been laying more consistently than the other, they both lay pale yolks. Although they dont 'free range' on grass I do give them them 'greens' (ie cabbage, grass, spinach, lettuce) when I can. Thought perhaps it was the breed.

 

The two speckledys lay brown eggs and yolks are lovely and yellow so didnt think it could be their diet as in that case they should all be the same.

 

Very strange ....
