TheChookKeeper
In a recent order for chicken-related goods, I added a box of 30 leg rings, in 6 different colours. My plan was to be able to differentiate my chooks. 4 of the 5 are gingernuts, and as adults have now lost any decerning features they had as POL's. Well - I just thought I would comment that it has gone very well! They weren't over-keen on having them put on - I got ones that "corkscrew" around their leg, so no equipment required, and no scary "CLICK" as it locks or anything. I can now tell if it is the same chicken who keeps: Escaping Picking on the new one Throwing the food around Knocking the water over And just been plain annoying! I think they cost me about £5 - but you can get them cheaper elsewhere (as I discovered AFTER they were delivered!) I would recommend them to anyone! They have been renamed in my signature now too! Scramble
Great idea! I'm sure that would be brilliant, I decided on 2 different coloured chickens to tell them apart, but leg rings? Cool :D
TheChookKeeper
It has been great - because they all look the same (unless you start comparing them up close!), I can now tell from across the garden which one just picked on the other one, and whether it is always the same who who escapes etc! Also been able to tell which one it is who squarks her head off every time the ducks have a splash in the water! debbie26pet
what sizes did you get for a full size hen? is it 16? i want to ring couple of mine as they look a like to much,
TheChookKeeper
Yup, I got the 16mm, although to bes honest, it was a bit of a tight fit on one of the bigger girls. It did go on, and now appears to slip up and down as it should with no problems, maybe it was just my "fitting" technique! I think other places may do an 18mm ring - but I think that may be a bit too big.
