HENthusiastic
Hi. Ive read loads about people lawns getting wrecked and mine has been absolutly fine. I didnt really understand. that was until about a week ago. Now all of a sudden they seem able to make a muddy hole in the lawn in about two minutes flat and are doing about 3 / 4 a day! i don't understand. Why would they suddenly start this? My partner is not pleased and has just started mumbling 'my poor lawn' I'm worried that if I dont find a way to stop it I may have to stop them going on the lawn all together. Maybe I should get them some boots?!
Hen Watch
It's the rain...... Scratching for worms coming to the surface on a wet lawn is my chooks favourite past time. And yes..... 2 mins is all it takes to reduce 1 meter sq to mud. So on really soggy days I'm afraid my lot get locked in the run. In Winter, the grass in their run dissappeared within weeks so it didn't matter. It grew back in Spring though.
HENthusiastic
Oh I see! thats really helpful to know. So I could confine them to their coop or our gravelled area when its wet and let them on the lawn when its dry. Then they get to play out, and the lawn doesn't get trashed! Perfect. Thanks. I guess I should cancel the order for 5 pairs of chicken boots then?!
