Need to stop chooks flying over netting - Roofed pen/cage ?

Recommended Posts

I posted the question below on 4th Aug (thanks for the replies) :-

We are newbies & have an Eglu placed on a permanent wood chip site confined by Omlet link board (3.5 x 2.6 metres). We let our 2 chooks free range around the outside of the Eglu but within the confines of the link board. To keep the chooks within this area, we have fixed chicken netting (from Omlet) arround the link board.

Unfortunately the chooks have found that they can escape by jumping onto the top of the Eglu & then jumping/flying over the netting (their wings are clipped).

Has anyone come across this problem & do they have a simple solution ?

Having now moved the netting further away from the Eglu, I've just seen both our chooks fly/jump over the netting again (with alarming ease) - one from the top of the Eglu & the other direct from ground level ! THey are both single wing clipped.

I'm now wondering if some sort of roofed pen or cage would be a better bet.

Does anyone have any any advice ? Can they be purchased ready made at reasonable cost ?

Brian

Hi

westarted with an egg cube then the netting then an inclosed walk in, our chooks have got out a few times but do not wonder off, as far as the netting is concerned im not sure if there is an easy option to keeping them in unless you can buy something to go over the top of the existing netting,i have heard about chickens jumping/flying over 6ft fences with wings clipped.
