Ashlander
Had my four hens about a week now and have been consistenly getting an egg a day off three of them. One of them is yet to lay but I just put it down to new surroundings and may take her a while to get settled. Watching her this morning, she was sat on the nest looking as though she was getting ready to lay. Later on when i went to check there was no egg but small amounts of blood in the boxes. She seems to be fine and is happily feeding there now. Any ideas what this may be?
Guest
have you checked her over for any cuts, especially her vent?
Ashlander
Just been out to look at her now and her vent is fine and from what i can tell she doesnt seem to have any cuts or marks.
Egluntyne
Probably just a little tear in a blood vessel. A little blood goes a long way. As long as she seems happy, I wouldn't worry too much.
Ashlander
Just been to check on her again and noticed what is causing the bleed (not sure how i missed it the first time). It's coming from under her claw on her rear talon. Im guessing she has pulled it while scratching around. Its not bleeding continuously though (a drop every now and again) and doesnt seem to be paining her.
Egluntyne
Oh dear. At least it is nothing gynaecological. If you rub it with soap it will stop the bleeding. Honestly.
