Steph101
Thinking of getting a cube (have posted about this too) and would like your advice on the maximum amount of chickens for my garden, which is not big (36 x 36 square feet) and I free range them all day on grass! I have four at the moment (recently lost one) and this number is fine - would eight be pushing it? Or would six be more realistic? Feel I really have to justify getting the cube to myself. Do I really invest an extra £600 for two more chooks? What do you think?
cluckbok
Hi ya, I take it you have an eglu? or alternative hen house? It looks to me that you did originally have 6 chooks so what's another 2? I know you got 4 at the moment so you would be getting 4 newbies. I been to a cube owners house and they had 10 chickens in a very very small garden. Had a bit of decking area and tiny tiny lawn and that was it. Our garden is small aswell, we only got the 3 chooks and eglu at the mo but I could see us upgrading in the future you never know. Also if you have got an eglu could you not sell it once the newbies have integrated with the others? that way it wouldn't be costing £600, more like £300. Steph101
No, I've never had six chooks, five was the most... long story! We started with 3 Omlet girls, one died, leaving us with 2, so we added 3 black rocks, lost a ginger... now we have four. A sensible number really. Except I'm not sensible. (There was a thread awhile back titled 'Prudence', maybe I should read that again....)! But yes, that would be the plan, eventually sell the eglu, but I was thinking as Autumn is round the corner, and what with 'credit crunch' and everything, people watching their pennies, etc, maybe I wouldn't be that successful... I would probably have a go at selling it in the spring (unless someone wanted one for Christmas, you never know).
cluckbok
I would say go for it. You know you want some more I reackon someone would snap your eglu up no problem, apparently people will pay over the odds cause they don't want to wait! They go for not far off the price of a new one, it's mad!
