Phosphorus
Gemma has now laid an egg on the Cube bars (I have blocked off the nesting box as both her and Roast seemed broody). Feeling really guilty now about blocking nesting box. She has plucked out breast feathers, has spent hours in the nesting box, really irritable when moved - seemed exactly like Roast in behaviour. Both herself and Roast are now sitting on the bars of the Cube - infact I think Gemma is trying to incubate Roast as a substitute egg as she seems to be more or less on top of her What is going on folks? Help Do broody hens still lay eggs? Gemma definately laid an egg yesterday and today. Roast didn't lay one yesterday as far as I can make out and not today....... Any ideas? Helen&Lee
Mine seem to lay for the first couple of days when they go broody. Also, if I shut off the nesting box they do seem to stubbornly sit on the roosting bars - if you are around why not shut the door of the cube? One of mine laid under the cube at the weekend - I thought they had all laid for the day and shut the cube door....
Phosphorus
That helps thank you. I was beginning to think I was going mad I think I will shut the Cube door tomorrow when they have all laid - wondered about it tonight but it is now a bit late in the day - they will be going to bed soon anyway. Nest box blocked for the night we shall see what happens tomorrow. Thanks for the reassurance
Ain't Nobody Here
My broody girl has laid whilst broody too. She only stops if I don't take steps to snap her out of it.
