cordelia
its on the grass... or what was left of it after a week of chicken pecking and then pouring rain... .now it has a wood surround and a thick layer of forrest bark..which is quite large and woody to be honest..and everyone else on here seems to recommed the B&Q hardwood chippings.. but mine is angled...it was the best part of thegarden to put it to be honest...(although it was also the nicest in the summer....... still I love those chooks (even though I got a peck yesterday putting them to bed...(they like to sit ouside the french doors of our living room, instead of going in the eglu,) so we have to carry them as coaxing with light in eglu didnt work a second time... cordelia
Sorry....I've had another look at the photo of your super run...and I cant think how you could angle it...as its solid structure..... apart from a false floor underneath the auboise or bark........(by that I mean flagstones or your gravel banked a bit.......but then you would need a hole drilled in to the wood at the edge for the water to drain out.....or is it concrete?? going around the base of the run...??? cant tell from the picture.... as the water does need somewhere to drain out to.. the only other thing, I can think of, is that driving rain is just going through the chicken wire on all the sides of the chicken house....and to put some protection on for the bad weather, to keep as much out as possible, and for that, perhaps the suggestion of using the idea of clear shower curtain plastic would look best...and cable ties are a wonderful invention we've found for tying our tauplin down.... (it had eyelets in...to prevent tearing) hope this helps... my example of our eglu wasnt really helpful at all....when I went back to your photograph..(as ours isnt a permanent structure like yours, so cant be compared)...sorry for my mistake your chicken house really looks good... so perhaps try putting some slope inside your base, to help any moisute drain away.... use what ever floor covering you prefer, (auboise or bark/wood chippings) and stop the rain with plastic sheeting just in the bad weather, or over winter..??? cordelia
since you have the gravel/stones down...it would be a horrid job to have to dig it all out again, but I can see that cleaning it would be a problem..... and it looks like the base of the run is solid..looking at your photograph so i think all I can suggest is that, inside the chicken run, angle the ground level even using your gravel...and then see if there is drainage holes for the water to get out .... even a couple of drill holes would help, if its angled...towards them, use whatever you prefer on the floor... and see if sheeting on the sides helps stop the water getting in.... sorry I havent got a photo.of our eglu and run as our pics are on the camcorder..but its pretty standard eglu, with eglu run, boarded around the sides...but on an angle..as the ground slopes I'm not skilled enough..to suggest anything else...you need someone more practical and skilled than me.. ....and baby has just undocked my laptop...somehow...ahh..its ok i can use my external keyboard again...
