Could somebody advise me on the best regime to protect our girls from lice and mites etc. I have read about red mite powder, poultry shield, diatom, lice sprays etc and now I'm a bit confused. We've had the girls just over three weeks and guess I should start something fairly soon.

This is what I do with mine.

 

After cleaning the cube, I sprinkle red mite powder all over the roosting bars and round the edges so that when they roost at night they are hopefully protected from anything crawling across the bars to them.

 

Sometimes at night I open up the top and sprinkle louse powder over them. They are ok with that.

 

You can also sprinkle diatom into their dust bath and they will sprinkle it over themselves.

 

This all works for me.

I personally have never had a lice problem - I check them and the eglu regulary, but they are always squeaky clean So I personally wouldn't do anything preventably.
