A few questions

Recommended Posts

hiya, we should be getting our 4 girls on saturday.

I just have a few more questions to ask that i've been thinking of

1. are poultry drink and poultry spice the same thing, if so which one would you recommend?

2. at the moment the run is going to be on grass, but i was thinking of putting it on slabs to make it safer from foxes. would you still use stalosan f and garden lime on slabs?

3. how long can you store the eggs for before they go bad. also i heard you can freeze them. do you use them as normal once defrosted? and how long can you freeze them for?

4. does anyone know any shops that sell bokashi or do i have to get it online?

5. can you always use poultry shield to clean out the coop? because a lady at the shop said its too strong and i should just use a normal disinfectant.

thanks for your help

I'm sure i'll probably think of some more questions before they arrive. lol

Yes, pretty much. One goes in their water, the other in their food. Whichever one is easier for you to use.

You can use the stalosan on the slabs to disinfect them, but the lime is more for digging into stale soil which you probably won't need.

The recommended time is 28 days after lay, they should be refridgerated after 18 days. You can freeze them - not sure how long for. Never done it myself but I believe you have to crack them into a container, then defrost and use as normal.

Might be worth asking at garden centres or horse feed suppliers, but I think most people buy on line.

Do you have an eglu or a wooden coop? Not sure about wood, but on the eglu you can just use a mild cleaner. A few of us use ecover washing up liquid for regular cleans.

Hope this is useful for a start - I'm sure others will be along who can elaborate! :D
