Rabbit Insurance

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I was hoping someone could advise on who would be the best company to use to insure by two lionhead bunnys? I have had a quick look and there doesn't see to be too many companies and very expensive.

thanks for your help.

I use Petplan and whilst expensive it has been worthwhile. I had a netherland dwarf who whilst young developed a huge absess due to his teeth. £1800 claim later which included a referral to a Rabbit Consultant! he was fine.

At the time I could not have afforded to pay that without the insurance. It mean he had experimental surgery and he lived to 8 years old very happily. His brother is still going strong at 10!

I found them easy to claim from and my current vet will allow any petplan customer to do the claim in the name of the practice and I don't have to pay anything other than the excess first. He doesn't do it for any other company.

It can be more expensive than other providers and is definitely horrendous for my 10 year old bunny so he is no longer insured, but a lot of problems, especially with teeth, develop when they are young so if insured you are covered for life if you keep it up.

I'll second that - Petplan are great. When my bun needed treatment and an operation I just paid the £50 excess, filled in a form at my vets and they dealt with Petplan and sorted the rest. I got a letter a few weeks later telling me that the £400 bill had been paid.

For about £10 a month - it is worth it!
