Dinkychick
We got our first egg today! yay. The chuck we think layed it was on antibiotics 12days ago but hasn't been on them for 7days yesterday afternoon...(so i guess 8 days off them). Do you think it will be ok to eat this egg or should i leave it till tommorro/another days egg? What happens if you eat an egg where a chuck has been on antibiotics? Egluntyne
Have a look at **this article** from the FAQ section, which briefly discusses the reasons for egg withdrawal. Best to be guided by your vet's instructions.
Dinkychick
so that would mean 5 days of anti's and 7 days of not would = 12days. The duration of the treatment plus one week right? So if i go by what is says on that article i should be good to go Thanks for answering.
Alfred
The withdrawal period would depend on what drug was used. The effect would also depend on the drug - most antibiotics would probably not affect most people if eaten in an egg. (unless the person happened to be allergic) But some antibiotics used for animals are toxic to people. The information is always printed on the drug data sheet of which any vet will have a copy , unless the product is unlicensed for use in hens in which case best leave 28 days to be totally sure! Dinkychick
it was Baytril. Does anyone else have experience of this?
Egluntyne
The advice used to be to withdraw the eggs for the course of the treatment and for one week after. Some vets do advise 28 days to be on the safe side, and regulations re animal medication are about to change.
