Just found Bokashi Bran at £23 for 4 Kgs delivered, is this a good price?

You can get 4kgs from Omlet delivered for £23.40 - £16.40 for the Bokashi and £6.99 for postage. I think Omlet is an excellent supplier for bokashi: I know they get it from wigglywrigglers but I've found it's cheaper gettting it from Omlet than them!

I got from omlet before but the bags they supply are only 600gms so you only get 2.4kgs not as good value as it looks .

that's worth getting in touch with Omlet about, ChickenGeorge2.

when I've ordered it I've always had 1 kg bags. One of the Omlet chaps did come onto a forum thread a wee while ago when this issue came up before and he said it was a mistake and Omlet would correct it for anyone who was affected.

 

As it's advertised as 1 kg bags, that's what it should be sold as:

 

"Bokashi - Active £4.10

Chickens are like a 24hr composting system; what they eat one day drops out the next bursting with nitrogen for the undoubted benefit of your vegetable patch. However, the droppings are acidic and over time this acidity can slowly build up, traditionally the way to treat this was to add lime to the soil.

But now there is a way to neutralise the droppings at source using the catchily named Effective Micro-organisms. The microorganisms are mixed with molasses and bran, allowed to ferment and then dried to produce a stable product. This sweet smelling mix is known as Bokashi and can be fed daily to your chickens at a rate of 5% of the weight of their feed and sprinkled on the dropping tray under the perching bars. Your chickens will love it and just thinking of all those millions of little organisms working away improving the soil has just got to make you feel good too.

It does come up on the 'checkout' page as weighing 0.6kg but it should be 1kg delivered.

 

That's why I think it's such good value - wigglywigglers sell it for £5 per kg; i have heard people say that they do cheaper postage for larger amounts though.

 

The other aspect of Bokashi that I've read about is that it goes sour so if you've not got a huge number of birds to feed then buying in bulk can be wasteful because it goes 'off'.

 

If you do get in touch with Omlet, let me know what their response is: I would imagine you will get it sorted out without any additional cost to you.

Hi Laurmurf.

I got in touch with them at the time and they sent me another 600gm bag free of charge so no problem there.

I think Omlet need to correct their web site so that is is clear what you can expect when you order Bokashi from them.
