what kind of price range? one chicken's cheap is another's pricey. What functions do you want and what kind of room will it be in ? I'm wondering about something for my front room at the mo

I'd go on Ebay and buy off someone nearby with a 100% feedback rating. that way you can get to pick it up and not pay postage and get something better quality than buying new. For £50 you can find some decent brands. I've just been on there and seen Sony, Kenwood, Yamaha. Second hand is the way to go I think when you need something not too much but want it to sound decent and not get distorted bass when you need the volume high.
