3 hens - 3 eggs this morning and a softie tonight

Recommended Posts

Hi - I got 3 eggs from the girls today (before lunch) and I just went down to shut the cube door and say goodnight and noticed that one of them (don't know who) had laid a softie in the nest box where they all sleep - which had broken. Anything to worry about?

They had got wet this afternoon, and we had a reasonably stress free one-to-one drying session in the shed at about 3.30pm.

(I cleared it out of the nest box, and while I was clearing it up, they all took umbrage and went onto the roosting bars!)

Thanks

Jill

One of my hens has done that.

If they otherwise seem healthy and happy, then I wouldn't worry too much. I've recently added two new hens to my little flock (they're all new-ish to laying). These two had just come into lay and were doing really well - almost an egg each per day for the first week, then suddenly four days of softies and four days of nothing! They seem perky enough and are getting mixed grit, layers pellets and cod-liver oil. So I will wait it out. :)
