bigmommasally
Maude my Magpie Hybrid laid her first egg mid October, then a couple of weeks ago she laid a funny coloured one followed the next day by a softie. Since then she hasn't laid anything. This all happened after I managed to hold her for the first time. She has never crouched and she has always run away anytime you go near her but on this occassion I sort of got her unawares. She didn't struggle when I held her and I thought it had been quite successful but a few days later the odd eggs occurred and now she's stopped laying completely. She's eating well and her comb is bright red and she is still top hen with the other girls. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks

Saronne
Hi Bigmommasally - Have you tried a little cod-liver oil mixed into their feed? Two of my hens went on strike recently, having laid an egg a day, then a week's worth of softies, then a week of nothing. After a week of the oil, they are back to laying a strong shelled egg a day. It might just be coincidence, but they do seem to be doing well with the oil. Paris Nicole Dorothy Germaine Jordan
