Ideal Bedding for baby lion heads

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am the lucky owner of 2 baby lion heads, they are still quite fluffy all over at the momement, i think this will gradually dissapear and just the long hair on the face will remain from what i have read.

i have been grooming them but notice that the sawdust does tend to stick to their bums at bit when sit where they have weed! i am woundering if i would be better using hay or straw as bedding but not sure if this would be as absorbant

any ideas or experience

many thanks

We've got two darling lion-heads, you're right - the sawdust does get stuck to their longer hair, especially round the back on the head (somehow) - but I would recommend grooming these rabbits at least twice a week anyway, so it doesn't really matter which bedding you use.

I'd love to see photo's of your babies.

I use megazorb in my rabbit's litter tray - followed by a layer of hay (rabbit's like to munch as they pooh). It's very absorbant, cheap to buy (horsey supplier). A lot of rabbit owners use it.

If you haven't already it's good to try and get your rabbits litter trained as it's will make the whole cleaning out process quicker and easlier!

If you google megazorb or Northern Crop Driers you'll be able to find stockest, both shops and online places.

Carefresh is brilliant and a little goes a long way (also amazing at stopping odours if you have indoor rabbits), but it is on the pricey side. You can sometimes get it cheaper on ebay. Straw isn't as absorbent, so I wouldn't use that - I only use it in the bedding area of my buns' hutch, where they never wee. Woodshavings go in their littertray (mine have shorter fur though so don't get wet bums!)
