my laying pisnes...thanks ollie

I'm not sure what to say about your Ducks - it may be better for you to take a look at the Practical Poultry forum as they have many duck keepers over there.

I wouldn't be thinking of a breeding programme until you are sure that they are all healthy

I hope you soon manage to sort the problem out.

Not certain if this is of any help but:

I had a problem with one of my ducks last year that sounds similar.

She had been in a moult for what seemed like ages and had lost some weight. Then one evening she didn't seem to be able to stand.

An emergency phonecall to my avian vet followed, who told me that I needed to get some calcium into her in the form of milk and water. And that he would see her in the morning- he lives an hour plus away.

She had a large bowl- it was probably nearly a pint of milk diluted down- over a few hours and she slept in a large box in my dining room overnight.

The next morning she was standing.

He put her on a calcuim supplement and fingers crossed it hasn't happened again. This happened at the end of the laying season last year and it had been her first year as she started to lay in Feb.

He couldn't explain why it had happened. But I'll be watching her closely this year!

So if this sounds similar, I hope it helps.

I've had another email from Birdman and it sounds as if his ducks are better now........

hi lesley all my ducks are all ok woop woop... can you give me any tipes on

good ducks to breed from like do they have to be big pritty and good show

quality stock and things like that this is for my aylesburey's and my

khaki's. =D and do you have any tipes on breeding guinea fowl...=D

I've only bred White Campbell ducks so don't have much advice really and I know nothing about Guinea Fowl - Practical Poultry forum would be the best place to look for advice on those.

PS - I prefer to deal with PMs rather than email - just click on the PM button below my name.
