Chloe spayed saturday and has got stitches out- again!

Recommended Posts

Just got back from emergency vets over half hour drive away. They put 3 staples in as she had managed to get the dissolvable ones out.

An hour later, and £100 poorer, I now have a little madam who has managed to get the staples out on the way home!

too late to get a babysitter (kids are in bed now) to go back to emergency vets and fork out another £100 - so I'm just hoping she stays still till the morning when I can take her to normal vets.

I've never had a bunny do that before!

Just got back from vets - they don't want to stitch her up again yet as she is infected now. So she has had a shot of antibiotics. They said she obviously doesn't like anything in her tummy and will just pull out more stitches, so they will look at her tomorrow and maybe superglue her back together - cheaper and less invasive then putting her under to do "inside out" stitches!

Fortunately her abdominal cavity and muscle is still intact - so it just looks like a deep cut ( though not bleeding)

Never thought to take out bunny insurance - as I've never had this much problem with a rabbit before!

I know I shouldn't laugh but I had exactly the same problem when Peggy was spayed a couple of yrs ago.

However my bunny went one stage further - she pulled her stitches out overnight and then decided to stuff her open wound with straw!! It goes without saying that she ended up with an infection too, so she had the pleasure of B &B at the vets for the rest of the week!!!

They do try us at times but they're definitely worth it. Good luck!

Fortunately my bunnies are house bunnies, with a plastic cage for a bedroom - which I had cleaned prior to her getting home - and removed the hay so there was nothing to irritate her wound!! But she still got an infection anyway. I can't believe I dragged the kids out of almost bed ( I was just putting them and Chloe to bed when I noticed it) to leave the kids at my mums, then trek all the way to emergency vets, pay a small fortune, to get her home and find she was in the same state as she started in!! :wall:
