soft eggs still

Recommended Posts

Hi was just after some advice regarding my girl Didier. She started off laying well a few months ago, we had a few double yolkers :P but soon she was laying softies alot of the time and looking really unhappy before she layed one (this is normal I know) So I began using limestone folur as well as the crushed egg shells and they have lots of grit. This seemed to fix things for a few weeks, but now I'm not sure if she just lays every now and then or if she lays soft ones which get eaten (its easy to see softies in the poo tray but I have also seen evidence of eaten eggs in the nestbox!)

We have 4 girls and for a couple of days a week we have 4 eggs so I know she lays ok sometimes, but my question is

do I need to worry? I haven't seen her looking uncomfortable and puffed up like she used to, so is it just one of those things? Do they get used to laying softies and it doesn't bother them so much? Is there anything else I can try to give her to see if I can resolve the problem (or is it even a problem if she seems happy in herself - we are very happy with the eggs we do get and her playful character!)

Sorry for rabbiting on but I have a two year old pulling at my trousers so am typing fast!!! Any advice or reassurance would be great. Thanks for reading!

I think thet might get used to it. I had one that got quite upset by it at 1st, wouldn't go to bed tried to lay the shell whilst roosting on back of chair!

I can tell soon as I look at one now if there's a softee on the way.

Perhaps we all just worry less too.

I just watch that they don't get dtuck & ill, then would whip to the vet if not rid of it all after 12 hours!

Try adding cod liver oil. it had vit D3 in it needed for absorbtion of calcium.
