floppy pale combs

Recommended Posts

Hi, my ex-batts combs have still not started to stand up and one of theirs is very very pale.

How long should it be before they start to stand up (got them in November) - I thought they would also turn quite red in the cold and they actually look more like cold bacon - a very pale pink.

All are eating and drinking fine and feathers are coming along nicely - infact one finished her moult and now looks positively stunning!

But then, I'm biased as I am her mother hen! If I could just get her comb red and upright, I'd be happy!

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Suzy

Hi, we get 2 eggs a day, and the palest combed one has not laid since November, which we put down to the moult.

The other two lay fine (although only 1 egg today) and their combs are not that much better. I think it's fair to say that the one who doesn't lay has the palest looking comb - almost grey in places.

Flubenvet now on order. I did laugh when I saw someone say they have a cupbard that looks like a chicken pharmacy - me too, although it's compounded by one of the cats being on tablets, ear drops and 2 different eye drops for the next 10 days.

Thanks for the guidance on how long it takes their combs to come back to normal.

Good news, our bullied hen has finished her moult and I am pretty sure that we had 3 eggs today (as in I didn't leave one in the nestbox by mistake last night) having only had 1 yesterday.

Time will tell I guess!

Thanks
