cherryblossom
Hi there, we have two chickens we get just over a week ago. So far we have had 8 eggs. When one of the chickens is laying and egg, the OTHER one makes loads of noise, keeps going in to the nest box. It is not that she needs to use it as she had laid one. Is this normal? Why is she doing it? Thanks
sandyhas3chucks
Well it's a special occasion. I should want to tell everyone if I were laying an egg! Perfectly normal, I love the happy clucking chuntering noise mine make whilst on the nest! sooooo cute
cherryblossom
No, it is not the one laying the egg making the noise, it is the other one. It was making that much noise before I thought they were being mauled! The one laying the egg was pretty quiet.
Baggins
How cute Two of mine used to do this - Tiki did it whilst Koru laid (whilst I ran around telling her to sshhhhhhhh because the neighbours will get cross). Sadly, Koru left us for chicken heaven in October and Tiki doesn't bother with the others when they are laying. Weird, huh? Not sure what it's all about though - empathy perhaps? sandyhas3chucks
Yes the one outside is proclaiming, you can't be happy chuntering nest building AND making that row. I too rush out going shhh you will disturb the neigbours. I liken it to town cryer.. oh yay........ oh yay! we got an egg on the way!!!!! jill the potter
Both mine pop in and out of the eglu when the other is laying, but no noise. Probably 'cause the one that's laying makes such a racket!!!!!! I can hear them through the double glazing - it goes on for about 20 mins!!! It even woke the cats up the other morning, and they were inside!!!!!!
WitchHazel
One of my girls makes a noise when either of the other 2 are in the nest. No idea why she does it, she always has.
