4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Hi all,

 

I have had my chickens (two) for just over 3 weeks.

Today one of them the top part of her beak has a little bit which is split off. It is maybe 2-3mm wide and 1cm long down the side of the beak. It doesn't seem to be loose.

 

Earlier they had their first taste of bread and I did notice that one of them, although looking keen, was only eating the tinyest bits, and leaving all the large bits. It was new though, so they are a bit fussy, and it did all get eaten.

 

Do I need to worry? Can I cut this bit off? Should I cut it off?

 

They both seem to wipe their beaks on the floor (or me) fairly often.

It has been very hot here recently (was over 40c yesturday) and today is the first cool day we have had in at least 2 weeks (about 23c today). Not sure if this would have any effect?

Eating is fine, scoffed some grapes no problem.

The split bit has now come off on it's own, so seems problem solved.

Glad to hear it's sorted, bit scary though I bet!

 

I don't always check where people are from when I'm reading posts, so to read about it being hot is confusing to start with

Glad it sorted itself out - I don't think I'd have liked to try and cut it off, my chickens wouldn't sit still!

Thanks very much. Mine are suprisingly calm, nothing seems to bother them. She was happy for me to poke it and have a good look at what was happening.

I seem to have the only chickens who don't care what is around them and don't make warning noises at all, just feed me noises. LOL.
