Trudie
Please help. I have had two little hen's for 9 months and they are both very happy and we love them to bits. They are called Trudie and Flo. Unfortunately I have discovered Flo has lost all her feathers under her belly and the top inside of her legs. Apart from some bruising to one leg the skin is very clean and there are no signs of parasites. Egg laying is normal and she is happy in herself. Flo has a habit of hurling herself at the back door if we open it and we think that's how she got the bruising. She does sleep on the nest at night and always has, she also does poo in it. We use sawdust in the nest. As you can tell she is a bit of a character I hate to think of her being uncomfortable. Any ideas?
Ain't Nobody Here
Hello Trudie and welcome to the forum . It does sound a bit like a moult . There do seem to be a lot of daft chickens around shedding feathers at this time of year. She's not reluctant to leave the nestbox, I take it? That might indicate broodiness. Have you seen this in the FAQs? It might help . http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=28893 Normally, you can do a "search" for moulting to get some topics to read through but the search facility is out of action at the moment .
