annettec
My eglu arrives on Wednesday and have been to see some chickens today !!! My daughter has fallen in love with the idea of having a Silkie so the man who has the chickens has very kindly managed to source a 7month old one for us ?. Was planning on putting two Hybrid good layers eg Mendlesham Ranger/Amber or Fenning Black which we will collect at the same time as the Silkie, will this be ok? Are the Silkies hard work, i know they won't lay as many eggs but hopefully will be a nice pet ? !!!!!!!!!! Thanks for all your advice previously ! Absy13
Beware! My friend had two silkies and three other hens and the silkies were prone to bullying the other chickens. She had to take the silkies back in the end.
annettec
Oh no !!! That doesn't sound good especially as they haven't interacted until i put them in the Eglu for the first time. We are collecting them at about 4pm so won't be long before thay are all shut in together ! Arrived this pm all set up with Straw and shavings and looks great in the garden can't wait to fill it on Friday, just hope thay are ok
Louisdog
Susie my silkie has been fine with my hybrids and fullsize hens, she certainly does not bully them, she is beneath them in the pecking order. She goes broody constantly which is a bit of a pain and keeps getting scaley leg so watch out for that. Fab and funky looking though, with blue ears, black skin and different toes to other chooks! Let us know how you get on! Alex

Solopuff
I have a bantam silkie in with my large fowl mixed flock which includes several hybrids. They are all fine together. I think the key thing is allowing them enough space to get out of the way when the more dominant ones assert themselves. This enables the pecking order to get established safely. Good luck. Silkies are such pretty, characterful and friendly birds it would be a shame not to take up the one you have been offered.

We are all so excited about their arrival (well Husband maybe not as excited ), but children are on the ceiling and are having votes with their friends for name choices which keep changing daily.
