Egzandra
My daughter brought me some free range eggs from a lady at work who keeps hens and she had written the date on each one. I decided to boil a couple of them for my daughter's lunch. I put these eggs in the water before it boiled madly, and to my surprise after a minute one egg burst with a loud pop and then started to float! Nothing came out of it because I had put salt in the water. The date on the egg was only 16th March. Has anyone had any problems with fresh eggs bursting? The egg smelt OK and my daughter said it tasted nice when she ate it. The shell seemed to be OK as well.
the eggman cometh
HI, they do say you want to leave eggs for 5 to 7 days from laying if your going to boil them. So it could just be that it was uber fresh.
Cinnamon
Could be, but thats really only for hard boiling, so there is time for an air gap to form between the egg & shell ,so its easy to peel The only reason I have ever heard of eggs cracking in the water is if they are put strainght into boiling water from the fridge, as they can't cpoe with the rapid temperature change. Egzandra
It's not as if it was straight from the fridge. My daughter had driven from Leicester and the eggs were not fridge cold. And, I couldn't understand why the egg floated, having burst, but nothing had come out of it, I said to my daughter "I hope it's not a bad one", but it smelt and tasted fine. Very strange. A mystery, I think.
