koo2cat Posted March 23, 2009 Share Posted March 23, 2009 I received in the post today a 240g tub of Flubenvet so that I can worm my 6 girls. The insructions on the back of the tub just say that 120g will dose 100kg food and that you should give over 7 days!! Am I being stupid or is that one hell of alot of food for 6 chickens over a week?? I realise I need to do the maths but not being the brightest bunny at that subject wonder if anyone out there has given Flubenvet to 6 hens and how they have given it. Do you put it in with their pellets or by some other means? Many thanks in advance!!! atsw Posted March 23, 2009 Share Posted March 23, 2009 If given according to the manufacturers instructions, it's 1 tsp powder to 4 kg feed. This ratio to be fed over 7 days. If you have some left over at the end of the 7 day, discard it. For those with only two or three hens, you mix 1/2 tsp with 2 kg food. Give very little in the way of treats during the course, so that they eat predominantly the medicated pellets. The other way of doing things, which I found works really well for our hens, it the 'grape method'. You cut a grape in half, and dip the cut edge in the Flubenvet powder. Then feed each hen with half a grape each day for 7 days. Because it's strong stuff, it's important that each hen only has half a grape each day. However, it's also important that each hen does get half a grape each day for the medication to be effective. quickcluck Posted March 23, 2009 Share Posted March 23, 2009 It is confusing For my 6 girls I use about half a teaspoon a day and split that between enough grapes for them all. I cut them into 4 so that they can swallow them, othewise there tends to be a bit of wrestling going on and I can't keep a tag on who's had what I do it for 7 days and then every 3 months.
