I'd love some advice please!

 

I'm hoping to get 2 or 3 day old Indian Runner ducklings soon - but we already have a lovely black lab (aged 2). Tom has a fantastic temperament - but I'm wondering how on earth I gradually introduce him to the new members of our family....

 

I'm sure loads of you will have done this before - but I'm wondering how we go about it in the best way possible - as I'd be so upset if he frightened them to death by trying to be friendly. How old would the ducklings need to be before they have a chance to get to know each other? And how would you introduce them?

 

I don't know anyone locally with ducks - so I don't have any ducky friends to ask!

My non-ducky friends are horrified and think I'd be heading for disaster - but I'm sure it must be do-able! Would love to hear any of your experiences!

We have both ducks and a labrador but the ducks are in a wired run so the two don't meet!

 

Introductions would be the same as for hens and dogs - look in the Chickens section for advice on introductions - an early, supervised, introduction and the use of something like a super soaker on the dog if he misbehaved, might work well.
