blocked-crusty ears

Recommended Posts

Hi chaps.

I bought a lovely little POL Sussex cross Bantam Silkie from the farm auctions 2 weeks ago who appears to be gasping, almost yawning.

I noticed that her ears looked a little crusty compared to any of my regular chooks, and today Ive noticed that they actually look dirty and possibly infected !?

I'm guessing she has an ear infection, and maybe the 'yawn' is her way of trying to pop or unblock her ear canal ?

I'm going to get her to the vets as soon as I can...In the meantime does anyone have any experience of this type of problem, and any tips ?

Cheers

Jason

Always a risk, buying at auctions. Unscrupulous dealers don't think twice about off loading sick poultry onto the unsuspecting. :(

I would take her to the vet as soon as you can.

In the meantime, I'd bathe her ears with warm water, don't dig to deep though, and keep her isolated from your other hens so that she doesn't infect them.
