Charlottechicken
Just wondering. I have noticed a lot of folk on the forum hatching eggs this Spring and wondered how many of us there are. How have you found it? Why are you doing it? I have been lucky and have had no problems with all five of my chicks so far, mind you they are not pure breeds so I was wondering if they are stronger because they are mongrels It has been very interesting watching them grow for this past fortnight, the way they are able to feed and drink so soon after hatching, and the range of vocabulary they have is a surprise too. I decided to hatch my own because I can see myself keeping chickens for a long time and round here there are no suppliers unless you want a day out and I don't like transporting hens around! I also figured once I have produced around five laying hens (and some Sunday roasts) I will have made my money on the incubator and brooder, so anything after that will be virtually free. I hope to progress to pure breeds in the future but not for a couple of years, I want to see how these mongrels turn out first I am only looking to hatch half a dozen chicks a year at present.
