Adam077908 Posted April 14, 2009 Share Posted April 14, 2009 Hello everyone! i have had my 3 ex bats for near on 6 months now and have used the brilliant knowlage of all of you kind people for just as long. Egg binding seems to be a lot more popular than i first realised and unfortunatly it happened to my little margery over the easter break. i quickly found a post relating directly to this and sorted her out within a few hours with a hot bath and a lot of love. i just wanted to know whether shelless eggs are a normal occurence after being egg bound because since i first noticed her ive had atleast 4 shelless eggs but afterwards a crumpled up shell follows sometimes as long as an hour later. i have bought a calcium suppliment for the water now and have ordered verm-x pellets to worm the whole gang, is there anything else i should add/buy/do?? one last problem relating to all this missery is that she has got a really sore bottom could that be from all the straining to get the bound egg out?? i heard sudo cream is good for this?? please share any information you have with me. In addition to the calcium supplement, I would cut back on any treats so that they eat more of the nutritious pellets. I'm not a fan of Vermex as I found that it didn't work. Try these http://www.petdispensary.co.uk http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk http://www.petmeds.co.uk/ I use Limestone Flour (from the horse feed supply shop) for a calcium boost put in with their feed. Or you can get Zolcal D or Calcivet to add to water and there are loads of online shops for that if you do an internet search. Sore bottom, not sure..... others on this forum have used soothing homeopathic ointments but I can't remember what know. Hopefully someone will post with some help on that. Egluntyne Posted April 16, 2009 Share Posted April 16, 2009 Johnsons make a very soothing Tea Tree and Lavender cream which is very soothing and smells heavenly. Costs about £3.50. Available at pet shops. The trouble with applying creams to hens bums is that dirt and bedding material can stick to it. I use a Tea Tree Spray for this purpose. I got it from an equestrian shop .
