4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Hi everyone,

 

I recently bought a cube and I'm just getting all the bits and pieces together before buying some hens.

 

I remember reading ages ago that some Omleteers use a covered cat litter tray as a dustbath. This seemed like a good idea as I guess it would keep the rain off and stop the hens chucking the soil everywhere!

 

However, when I did a search on google, the covered cat litter trays I found seemed to have an opening which would be too small for hens to get in and one corner shaped litter tray had a door to get in (can hens push doors open!?!)

 

So, please could you give me some advice on what sort of dustbath I should buy to put in my cube?

Hi Henpen and welcome to the forum! I grew up in Box just outside Bath - its a lovely part of the country

 

I got my cat litter box (for the cats!) from Pets at Home and the opening is big, it did come with a door but they are easily taken off in about ten seconds, we get a new litter tray every few months and the doors are always easy to ping off so don't panic too much!

 

I don't know where the nearest Pets at Home to Bath is but there is one by the park and ride in Brislington, Bristol and one on the roundabout (A420 junction) on the way to the M4 at Chippenham.

I did pop into Pets at Home and see something similar but I think you would actually need to see the opening to make sure a chicken could fit inside.

 

I have an uncovered underbed storage box in a covered eglu run as I can't fit in one of these covered cat loos due to their height, but with a cube you would have no problem I guess.
