meezers
Well, after posting my 'wish list' on the thread of the same name ( Favorelle, Australorp, Orpington, Silkie, Araucana and Welsummer ) I'm pleased to report that we picked up a welsummer and Australorp this afternoon - only 4 more to go! I can't believe how laid back the Australorp is - she was first out of the coop 3 mins after I put her in, with the Welsummer close behind. She just stood and looked at my 6 chooks ( their run adjoins the new run ) as they created holy hell at the new comers - Elsie was shouting her head off for 2 hours !!! Then she just shook her feathers and went off to have a dustbath within sight of them - much to Elsies renewed disgust ! She's also been on the roof of the hen house - 4 1/2 ft high ! The Welsummer is not quite so chilled. She's been doing alot of pacing and has been in and out the coop several times - so funny, she doesn't use the ladder, instead jumps up onto a perch about 3ft away, shuffles along it until she's lined up, then does a sort of squat and wiggle before launching herself off and through the pop hole She's already started to lay - I suspected as much when I saw a couple of eggs in the run when we collected her, she left us one in the run shortly after she arrived. Both girls have very cleverly put themselves to bed. Tomorrow I'll hopefully strike 2 more off my list - hoping to pick up an orpington and a Silkie, the last two will probably have to wait until summer. meezers
I have taken some pics, you'll have to wait until I get them onto the laptop though - hate all that fiddling around with pix resizer and photo bucket etc. We picked up a white silkie ( for 10yr old son ) and a cuckoo orpington this morning - was very tempted by a gorgeous laced wyandotte, but she wasn't on my list so I was very good and left her behind The silkie and orp spent a little longer in the coop before venturing out , but they are all in their run together now - the silkie has already put the welsummer in her place ! I'm not totally convinced she's the full size silkie I was told she was - she looks so tiny, maybe she's a bantam, either way, don't think she'll have trouble standing up for herself.
